REMODUS winter school 2024

The 2024 Winter School of Finno-Ugric Studies, part of the Erasmus+-funded strategic partnership REMODUS, was held at Uppsala University in Sweden between 5 and 10 February 2024.

The winter school was a hybrid teaching event: students could participate in person, or over the Internet.

The winter school consisted of:

  • Courses on Earliest Written Finnic (Rogier Blokland) and Old Finnish (Merlijn de Smit, Rogier Blokland)
  • Workshops on language revitalization in theory and practice (Riitta-Liisa Valijärvi) and modelling language contact and AI (Petar Kehayov)
  • Three guest lectures (Birsel Karakoç: An introduction to Turkic; Michael Dunn: An introduction to Paleo-Siberian; Matti Miestamo: Negation in Uralic languages and beyond)
  • A student colloquium
